Camden Council aims to foster and enhance participation by all residents in the life of the community and the life of Council. Council is committed to building and maintaining strong links with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as well as celebrating the rich and vibrant culture of Australia’s Indigenous people as part of our diverse community.
Camden Council is committed to developing and implementing a social, cultural and recreational plan that recognises diverse and changing lifestyles through the Camden 2040.
The Camden Local Government Area along with Campbelltown and Wollondilly sit within the Tharawal Local Aboriginal Lands Council boundaries, as such work with local Aboriginal people often involves collaboration with other Councils in order to work best with our Aboriginal community.
In the most recent ABS 2011 Census of Population and Housing, 1116 (2%) of people in the Camden Local Government Area (LGA) identified as having an Indigenous background, up from 648 people in the 2006 Census.
Camden Council has developed an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Snapshot Report profile of data and information that can be downloaded by clicking here.
