NSW SES Sydney Southern Region Weather Update

Published on 16 March 2017, by Camden Council

The NSW SES Sydney Southern Region have provided the following weather update.

Update: 5.00pm 16/03/2017
Macarthur Road under Camden Bypass is affected by flooding. Council will be onsite for traffic management.

NSW SES volunteers are currently calling local farmers to advise them of a very slight rise in the river, just as a heads up and to get people to start thinking about their pumps and livestock should the river continue to rise.

Thankfully it looks like rain in the area is beginning to ease.

The Bureau of Meteorology has just issued a Severe Thunderstorm warning for HEAVY RAINFALL for people in parts of the Illawarra and South Coast Forecast Districts. Severe thunderstorms and showers are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to FLASH FLOODING in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Warragamba, Nowra, Bowral, Albion Park, Kiama, Huskisson and Ulladulla.

Do not drive, ride or walk through flood water. #NSWSES has already received 3 flood rescues from people driving their cars through flood water.

For emergency assistance with flooding or storm damage, call the NSW SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, always call 000 (Triple Zero) immediately.

HEAVY RAIN IN CAMDEN - Heads up that at present, heavy rain is about to hit Camden which may cause some flash flooding in the area. Take the long way round and avoid any flooded road.

Warragamba dam has received 53mls of rain in 60 minutes. That is some heavy rain. Parts of the Illawarra South Coast City of Wollongong have received such slow moving heavy rain that #NSWSES volunteers have already responded to 3 flood rescues.

We're looking for a #stormspotter to let us know the impacts out there asap.
