Australia Day Award Nomination Form

Do you know a local citizen or group who has made an outstanding contribution to the community in 2024? Why not nominate them for an Australia Day Award!

Applications are now open for the Awards with the winners announced on Australia Day, Friday 24 January 2025. 


 

HOW TO ENTER:

  1. Understand, agree and accept all Terms and Conditions detailed here and on the nomination form.
  2. Complete the online nomination form below or submit a hard copy form either:
    - By post to 70 Central Avenue, Oran Park NSW 2570
    - Email to events@camden.nsw.gov.au or
    - Deliver in person to Council’s Administration Building located at 70 Central Avenue, Oran Park NSW 2570.
  3. If you are nominating someone under the age of 18, you will be required to submit a Permission Form signed by the parent/guardian of the nominee.

CATEGORIES AND CRITERIA:

Citizen of the Year

Open to Camden residents aged 25 years and over as at 31 December 2024, who have made a noteworthy contribution during 2024 and/or given outstanding service to the Camden community in a non-work-related capacity over several years.

Young Citizen of the Year

Open to Camden residents aged under 25 years as at 31 December 2024, who have given outstanding service and made a positive impact on the Camden community in 2024 and/or longer. 

Sports Achievement Award

Recognises a committed sportsperson, sporting team, coach, volunteer, or official, whose actions inspire and encourage others whilst enriching the Camden community through sport, healthy living or physical activity. This category has no age restrictions. 

Community Group Award

Recognises groups who work tirelessly and work closely with the Camden Community. Groups who encourage inclusivity and continue to make Camden and better place to live during 2024. This category has no age restrictions.

Arts and Cultural Award

A person or group who has made an influential or valuable contribution to the Camden area through any art form, including drama, visual art, verse, dance, cultural heritage, expression, literature, film and multimedia. This category has no age restrictions.

 

TO BE CONSIDERED WHEN NOMINATING: 

Nominators are encouraged to provide as much detail as possible in the nomination form as nominations will be judged based on the nomination only and not outside knowledge of the individual/organisation.

  • How has the nominee made an outstanding contribution to the Camden community in 2024?

  • What personal goals and objectives has the nominee achieved?

  • Has the work by the nominee been undertaken on a paid or volunteer basis?

  • How is the nominee an inspirational role model for the Camden community?

  • What personal sacrifices/difficulties has the nominee experienced whilst working towards their achievements?

JUDGES

Three (3) representatives of the Camden Council Events Reference Group.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Nominations must be submitted on Council’s official nomination form (hard copy or online).     

  • Nominees must be Australian Citizens at the time of nomination.

  • Nominees must live, work or study in or be associated with the Camden Local Government Area (LGA)

  • Current State and Federal politicians and Councillors of the Camden LGA are not eligible for individual categories but may be nominated as part of a group for the Community Group Award.

  • Previous unsuccessful nominees are eligible for nomination in the same category in subsequent years.

  • Nominations will only be accepted for one (1) category per person or group.

  • Self-nominations will not be accepted including nominations for an organisation or group you are part of.

  • Nominations will be accepted from Camden Council staff and Camden Councillors however nominator information will remain anonymous during judging.

  • Nominations will not be accepted from members of the judging panel.

 

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Nominations open on Monday, 11 November 2024 and close on Monday, 6 January 2025 at 9pm.
  2. Judging will commence on Monday, 13 January 2024 and be completed by Friday, 17 January 2025.
  3. Camden Council reserves the right to change the opening dates and times of this competition and these terms and conditions without notice.
  4. Winners will be announced on Friday, 24 January 2025.
  5. Camden Council reserves the right to disqualify any nominee at its sole discretion if it is of the reasonable opinion that he/she has breached the terms and conditions or acted inappropriately in any way.
  6. Camden Council may require proof of Australian Citizenship before confirming a winner.
  7. The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  8. Camden Council cannot be held responsible for any lost, late or misdirected entries and no compensation will be offered in the event of any postal delays or other issues, technological or other malfunction with the Camden Council website or social media accounts that may adversely affect an entrant or their entry.
  9. The winners of the Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year categories will, as part of their duties, be invited by Camden Council to attend a variety of events, private functions and facility openings throughout 2025 and may also be required to prepare and deliver speeches for specific events. The person nominated should be made aware of the potential duties by the nominee and the nomination should only be made if the nominee is agreeable and able to complete these duties*
  10. By entering the Camden Australia Day Civic Awards, nominators and nominees (including the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of nominees under the age of 18) agree to indemnify and hold harmless Camden Council, its employees, agents and assigns from any and all liability, damage, and/or claim of any nature whatsoever arising out of or in any way related to their participation and association with the awards or subsequent events.
  11. Where individuals are nominated in more than one (1) category, Council may, at its sole discretion, select the most appropriate category and place the nominee in that category.
  12. No award will be presented if Camden Council considers that nominations are not of a sufficiently high standard, do not meet the criteria for that category or do not otherwise comply with these terms and conditions.
  13. Nominations will not be accepted for individuals whose achievements are directly related to their paid employment.
  14. No remuneration, expenses or other compensations are payable to a winner. All nominees will receive a prize in the form of a framed certificate to highlight their nomination. In addition, winners of the six categories will receive a framed certificate. The winner of Citizen of the Year category will receive a gift hamper to the value of $150 and an engraved pin. Other category winners will receive a gift hamper to the value of $100 with the Young Citizen of the Year also receiving an engraved pin.
  15. All information retained by Camden Council will be held in accordance with the State Records Act 1998 and the Privacy Disclaimer.
  16. No weight is given to the number of times a person is nominated.
  17. Camden Council will not accept entries that it considers to be incomplete or incorrect.
  18. If the Australia Day Awards cannot be held for reasons beyond Camden Council’s reasonable control, Camden Council reserves the right to cancel or modify the competition. If cancelled under this clause, Camden Council may choose to select winner(s) from eligible entries, if any, received at the time of cancellation or it may choose to award no winners.
  19. Camden Council reserves the right to use and reproduce any photos and other details submitted in this entry or during any events related to the Australia Day Awards for promotion of the Awards and other Council initiatives.
  20. Entrants agree and understand that Camden Council will not be held liable for any damage and/or claim of any nature whatsoever arising out of or in any way related to actions or omissions of any third parties, whether or not those parties are directly or indirectly involved in the Australia Day Awards.
  21. All decisions made by Camden Council regarding any aspect of the Awards are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

 

The Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIPA) provides for the protection of personal information and for the privacy of individuals, including personal information provided to Camden Council (Council). The personal information you provide to Council is being collected for competition and promotional purposes. It will be used by Council staff and may be shared publicly, with other media outlets for promotional purposes or as required by law.
