Earth Hour
Get involved and switch off at 8:30pm Saturday 23 March 2024
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement that started in Sydney, Australia in 2007 by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). This symbolic movement has since grown with many individuals, communities, businesses and landmarks participating annually including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the London Eye and the Eiffel Tower.
Camden Council has been proudly joining millions of people worldwide in this gesture of solidarity since 2013 by switching off for 60 minutes across various sites. Council’s continued participation demonstrates our commitment to improving sustainability and raising awareness to the impacts of climate change.

Show your support for a sustainable future by getting creative in planning your own event or using one of the ideas below. Turn off non-essential lights for one hour at 8:30pm for Earth Hour. Switch to minimal lighting (in accordance with your work health and safety policy) in your building and try to dim any internal lights that cannot be turned off. Host a special candle-lit dinner with an Earth Hour themed menu (i.e. sustainable seafood and/or local cuisine). How about Earth Hour Happy Hour? Offer your customers discounted or half price drinks between 8:30 – 9:30 pm. Offer a variety of sustainable and different “no-cook” or “raw” menu items that require less energy to cook. Create a special ‘dark’ cocktail to celebrate the event. Invite local artists or musicians to play acoustic “unplugged” music in your restaurant to entertain guests while they eat by candlelight. Make Earth Hour a special VIP night and invite special customers or frequent visitors to your restaurant to enjoy this once-a-year event! Go local! Serve food provided by local businesses. Own a coffee shop? Give discounts for people who bring their own reusable cup. Create sustainable hampers that can be picked up by residents and taken home for a candle lit dinner. Host a Natural World themed quiz night.
