Completed Projects
Connecting White Gum
Through an exciting partnership with the CSIRO Australian Tree Seed Centre, the Australian Botanic Gardens Mount Annan, University of Sydney and Camden Airport this project resulted in 500 iconic Camden White Gums (Eucalyptus benthamii) planted in Elizabeth Macarthur Reserve, Camden South. Unfortunately, these trees were impacted by the flooding events in 2022 and replacement planting was undertaken in September 2022 with a successful community planting day.
Genetically diverse trees have been planted as a seed orchard to help ensure the survival and resilience of this threatened species into the future.

This successful project was recognised at the Excellence in the Environment Awards 2023 as the overall winner for Natural Environmental Protection and Enhancement – On-ground works.
Building Camden’s Canopy
Every Tree Counts
This project saw over 1,100 trees installed across the Camden LGA focusing on areas with low tree canopy coverage and high vulnerability to urban heat. It not only provides a more consistent tree canopy across the LGA that provides much needed shade and cooling but enhances our urban streetscapes and provides habitat for local wildlife.
This project is supported by the Love Your Tree program which encourages local residents to adopt their street tree to help ensure it thrives. Residents that sign up receive a tree care kit, native plants for their own garden and a certificate to recognise the commitment.
Parks and Reserves
This project saw an additional 850 canopy trees installed within 47 parks and reserves across the Camden LGA, as well as a number of local streets to provide shade, canopy and cooling.
Canopy Enhancement
Narellan Sports Hub
As part of the completion of Stage 2 works, this project saw more than 1,500 trees installed across the site to provide important shade and habitat and improve the presentation and amenity of the facility. The project was completed in August 2022 and delivered planting of an additional 140 semi-mature landscape trees on the site, as well as 1,000 native tubestock trees along the site boundary. The project also meant that more than 150 trees across the project site could be upsized to larger stock to provide more immediate impact and much needed shade at this important regional sport facility.
Trees were planted on the site along important internal pathways and around sporting facilities to provide shade and cooling for athletes and spectators, as well as in carparking areas to reduce the heat from the hard surfaces. Trees selected for the site have been shown to be well-suited to Camden’s climate, with many local native species that form part of Cumberland Plain Woodland included to also provide important local habitat and connectivity for wildlife.
The trees will be maintained and monitored to ensure their health and survival. Council will also be using aerial imagery to help determine the amount of important shade and canopy provided by the trees as they grow and mature. Already the impacts of the planting are visible in the aerial images below showing the site prior to Stage 2 works, just prior to the completion of the project and with the location of the landscape plantings identified.
Ferguson Land
As part of the delivery of the Camden Cricket Facility at Ferguson’s Land this project resulted in an additional 2,000 native trees being planted within the riparian zone of Matahil Creek. The funding also resulted in 79 canopy trees across the site being upsized to larger stock to provide more immediate impact and canopy and dramatically improving the amenity of the site.
The riparian plantings were impacted by flooding events in 2022 with some replacement planting undertaken on the site in November 2022.
Kirkham Park and Works Depot
This project resulted in the planting of over 70 canopy trees as part of the Stage 2 works at the BMX Facility at Kirkham Park. This project is now complete with the trees located throughout the new carpark, and alongside the jump track. The trees are an important part of the Kirkham Park landscape and also provide habitat and food for native wildlife.
This project saw over 120 trees installed as part of the planned upgrade of the Council Works Depot in Narellan. The project was completed in August 2023. The trees will not only provide much needed shade and cooling, but also improve the amenity of the site for staff, neighbours and visitors as they continue to grow and mature.
