Break the Bias this International Women’s Day

Calling all Camden women – it’s time to acknowledge and celebrate your contribution to family, social and professional life with Council’s 2022 International Women’s Day program.

Over the next month, you can get involved in several activities including movie nights, free yoga sessions, free self defence classes and much more.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #BreakTheBias, which enlists people everywhere to actively call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping each time they see it to level the playing field.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said she was proud to represent and celebrate local women.

“Women play such important and powerful roles in life, both at home and professionally. It’s terrific to be able to have a program of events and activities that acknowledges and celebrates this fact throughout March,” Cr Fedeli said.

“As a woman, a mother to a beautiful daughter and a grandmother to a precious granddaughter, I dream of a world that is free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. How amazing will it be when my daughter, my granddaughter and the generations of intelligent, powerful and creative girls to come can be, do and feel whatever they want.

“I am incredibly proud to be able to work with five female Councillors. In addition to these powerful women, all four of our Council’s director’s positions are held by inspiring and strong women as well. I am privileged that, together, we get to help create a world where difference is valued and celebrated and forge women's equality.

“I encourage our local women to get involved in this year’s program. Grab a friend and treat yourself to a movie night or even a yoga session. Regardless of how you celebrate, be sure to check in with your female friends and remind them of the great job they are doing.

“We are all here to support each other and I know the Camden community does that so well, day in day out.”
