Local children will have the chance to learn about the importance of native plants, with Camden Council’s free native plant donation for local preschools and childcare centres.

The new program invites preschools and childcare centres in the Camden area to register for up to 50 native plants each.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the program was a great way to both educate children and increase our native habitat.

“Educating our little ones on getting outside and creating biodiverse gardens are just some of the great benefits of this initiative,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Council has nine different native species on offer from lilly pillies to willow bottlebrushes, each with its own story and connection to country.

“I encourage all of our local preschools and childcare centres to contact Council’s Sustainability team and register their interest in the program.”

Native plants available include:

  • Lilly Pilly;
  • Willow Bottlebrush;
  • Yellow Buttons;
  • Blue Flax-Lily;
  • Winter Apple;
  • Bushy Needlewood;
  • Wedge Guinea Flower;
  • Pink or White Thyme Bells; and
  • Crowea or Waxflower.

Registrations are now open and can be made by emailing Council at sustainability@camden.nsw.gov.au
