Residents are now able to enjoy Narellan Urban Forest at all hours with Council recently completing upgrade works to the area.
The playground, located next to Narellan Library, had become a popular location for local youth leading to Council and local police working together to improve the environment.
Improvements works recently completed include:
- Increased lighting;
- Channel works;
- Vegetation improvements;
- Installation of a footpath from Narellan Library carpark to the Library forecourt; and
- Associated lighting and vegetation improvements around footpath.
Camden Local Area Command Crime Coordinator, Sergeant Phil Gornall, said the collaboration between Council and local police made an immediate impact.
“Prior to the improvements it was identified as an area with antisocial behaviour and an issue,” Sergeant Gornall said.
“The collaboration between Council taking up the improvements and Police working together has had an instant effect.
“Narellan Urban Forest has always been a spot for kids to enjoy after school whether it is to play on the equipment, do their homework or read a book and it is great to see it is back to being an enjoyable space for the whole community to use.”
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli said residents should take advantage of the beautiful location with all its improvements.
“Council is dedicated to providing public spaces for our residents to experience the great outdoors in the area,” Cr Fedeli said.
“The increase in lighting in and around this area has enhanced visibility creating a safer environment for residents.
“These works are of great benefit to the entire community.”
The $235,000 project was funded through the Australian government's Safer Communities Fund.
