Switch your lights off and join Earth Hour
Posted 4 years ago
Residents are being encouraged to join Council in the worldwide Earth Hour movement by switching off their lights for the future of the planet.
Council will participate in Earth Hour on Saturday 27 March from 8.30-9.30pm by turning off the lights at the following locations:
- Oran Park Administration Building (internal lights only);
- Oran Park Library (internal lights only); and
- Camden Jacaranda Lights along Argyle Street.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, called on the community to join in and help make a positive change.
“It is important for us to prepare for the future of our planet by making the necessary changes today and participating in Earth Hour is a great start,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Council will turn lights off at specific locations to start the trend in Camden and I hope our residents can join in.”
Earth Hour aims to connect community with nature while raising environmental awareness. This year’s Earth Hour theme is Switch for Nature to show support for Australia’s switch to become a renewable powerhouse. Australia has enough sunshine and wind to produce clean and affordable energy to power our whole nation.
Council also has solar panels on several buildings in the area including the Oran Park Administration Building, Narellan Library, Camden Library, Mt Annan Leisure Centre and Narellan Child, Family and Community which offsets electricity consumption.
