Local young people have turned to technology in a quest to keep Camden Youth Week alive, with a range of activities planned through social media.

Despite being unable to host or attend events, Camden Youth Council will bring a daily activity to the homes of all local young people through their Facebook and Camden Council’s Instagram accounts from 1-9 April.

Camden Youth Council member, Hamani Tanginoa, said the program was set up to keep local young people active and healthy during a time of need.

“It is important for young people to keep their mind and body intact, so they don’t go too crazy while at home,” he said.

“For the nine days of Youth Week, we will release different activities for people to do from their own homes.

“That will include being creative on their own, whether it be through music, dance or art, and also being physical because you can still go outside at the front or the back of your house and do something. It is also important to catch up with friends through video calls on Facebook or Zoom.

“We can all then post our photos or videos on social media with the hashtags #isolationmotivation, #youthweek2020 and #camdenlove so we can all see how we’re getting through Youth Week.”

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the initiative was a fantastic way to highlight our creative local young people.

“Camden Youth Week is one of our award-winning events and I am glad to see the power of social media keep it alive during quite a unique period,” Cr Fedeli said.

“The daily programs will keep the youth informed, active and connected and I look forward to seeing our local young people enjoying themselves.

“I encourage all young people to follow the Camden Youth Council on both Facebook and Instagram and take part in the daily routines.”
