The $10 million Camden Animal Shelter project is proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.

Project Details

Camden Council has received $10 million through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program to deliver the Camden Animal Shelter project.

A preliminary concept design for the long-awaited project will be available to view from Monday 11 March 2024 on yourvoice.camden.nsw.gov.au 

Animal Shelter works will include:

  • A purpose-built animal shelter including adoption viewing areas with meet and greet spaces;
  • Animal housing designed in accordance with shelter medicine principles, sustainable design and Capacity for Care modelling;
  • Vet facilities for animals in care;
  • Designated exercise yards, enrichment spaces and a walking track;
  • Reception area, staff workspaces and public amenities; and
  • A multipurpose function room that will offer community outreach programs.


A drop-in information session will be held on Wednesday 20 March, 4-7pm, at 55 Topham Road in Smeaton Grange. Come along to meet the project team and learn more about the facility.

Following the close of the exhibition period, the project will move into the detailed design phase before a development application is lodged with the NSW Government mid-2024.

Timeframe

Construction of the new facility is expected to commence in mid-2025 and continue for 12 months.
