Camden, will you accept this rose?

Roses are nearly abloom across Camden and now is the perfect time to make your entry into Council’s Garden Competition.
The annual competition invites residents, businesses and schools to enter their gardens with more than $3,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.
Ian and Maureen Thackery, who won Best Floral Display with almost 400 roses in their garden in the 2020 Garden Competition, said one of the main tricks to winning was plenty of colour.
“The judges like colour in the garden and to keep it spick and span. The gardens that have won over the years have been beautiful,” Mrs Thackery said.
“You also have to carefully select the category that you are going to enter.
“Our hobby with roses has turned into a real passion. We started off with 10 roses years ago and it has just grown to about 380 to 400.”
There are eight categories for this year’s Garden Competition including:
- Senior Citizen Garden;
- Small Residential;
- Large Residential;
- Veggie Garden / Plot;
- Best Floral Display;
- School / Class Plot;
- Most Sustainable Garden; and
- Commercial Garden.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said Camden was home to many beautiful gardens and called on residents to enter the competition.
“Spring is the perfect time to take care of your garden and I have been pleased to see so many people outside making their homes look so beautiful,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Council’s Garden Competition seeks to applaud the passion and dedication of our residents and recognise the importance of greenery throughout the area.”
Entries are open until Monday 10 October.
