Camden’s sustainable future given green light
Posted 4 years ago
Creating a sustainable Camden is high on the agenda for Council, after it endorsed the Sustainability Strategy 2020-24 at last night’s Ordinary Meeting.
As Council works towards achieving positive outcomes for the local environment, the Sustainability Strategy sets key direction and local priorities in the area, including:
- Building Sustainable Communities – increasing awareness, knowledge and capacity in the community to take action on sustainability issues;
- Creating Sustainable Urban Environments – embedding sustainability principles into urban planning and design to support the delivery of low carbon communities;
- Improving Resilience to Climate Change – understanding the climate risk for the Camden LGA and build resilience to climate and natural disasters;
- Protecting Our Natural Environments – improving biodiversity management and the health of our waterways; and
- Leading by Example – demonstrating leadership to the community by improving the sustainability performance of Council.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the strategy formalises Council’s work towards greater sustainability.
“It is important to increase the community’s awareness around sustainability issues while also protecting our own natural environments and leading by example for our residents,” Cr Fedeli said.
“In particular, creating a sustainable Camden includes creating urban environments that are designed for our local climate while also enhancing our natural environment.
“The endorsed Sustainability Strategy builds on Council’s Sustainability Advantage bronze status and puts in place actions to address issues such as waste, energy and water management.”
