If cats could talk, Chester would have some story.

The 12-year-old cat was reunited with his Narwee-based owner on Wednesday this week after disappearing five years ago. The feline was found almost 40 kilometres away from home in Oran Park before being handed over to Council rangers.

Chester’s owner, Kelly Corbett, said she was shocked to have her pet back after fearing the worst.

“About five years ago my husband rescued a kitten from his work which joined Chester at home and after that Chester just went missing,” Ms Corbett said.

“We thought he might not have liked the kitten and he might have even gotten run over. I figured if somebody found him that they would have taken him to a vet to have his chip scanned.

“I don’t know if he’s been on the street. It is funny because we were looking at adopting another cat and Camden Council’s rangers contacted me to tell me they had found Chester, so I am stoked.

“I think it is important to let pet owners know that keeping your pet’s details up to date is what brings your pet home if something like this ever happens.”

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said Chester’s miracle story is a reminder to residents to continue being responsible pet-owners.

“All cats and dogs are required to be registered and microchipped across Australia and you can do that either with Council or your local vet,” Cr Fedeli said.

“If you ever move homes, it is also important to update your pet’s details.

“Pets are important members of the family and I am glad to hear Ms Corbett has been reunited with Chester. I am sure he has plenty to share with his family.”
