Celebrate culture in Camden this month
Posted 3 years ago in Whats On
This month will be all about celebrating cultural diversity in Camden, through Council’s Multicultural March program.
Multicultural March is an initiative of the NSW State Government and symbolises the determination to foster a society in which everyone can make a commitment to the community and economy.
Council will be hosting a range of events over the month, with all residents encouraged to get involved. This year, we are celebrating with a jam-packed program:
- Movie sessions at United Cinemas Narellan;
- The Lights of Harmony Week;
- Harmony Storytime sessions and cultural book displays at Narellan and Oran Park Libraries;
- A Paint the Town REaD book list;
- Camden Culture Club at Alan Baker Art Gallery; and
- Cultural dress social media competition.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said there was something for everyone to enjoy.
“Nearly half of all Australians were born overseas or have at least one parent who was – and if that isn’t enough of a reason to have wonderful multicultural celebrations, I don’t know what is!” Cr Fedeli said.
“Camden residents identify with 113 different nationalities and come from 85 different countries. We are so proud to have such incredible diversity right here at home.
“I encourage everyone to get involved in this year’s program, as it will allow you to further develop your knowledge as well as connect with people of other cultures.
“Did you know, the five largest ancestries in the Camden area are Australian, English, Irish, Scottish and Italian?”
