Posted 3 years ago
Residents can celebrate diversity and get involved in a range of exciting events as part of Council’s Social Inclusion Week online program next week.
Social Inclusion Week, which runs from Saturday 20 to Sunday 28 November, aims to help all Australians feel included and valued, giving everyone the opportunity to participate fully in society.
Council is offering residents the chance to be a part of the following:
- Social Inclusion Week Games Night – Camden Youth Council, in collaboration with The Game Centre Narellan are offering free online games to all on Thursday 25 November, 6-10pm with $100 worth of prizes up for grabs; and
- Facebook Competition – Inviting residents to tell us what they love most within their culture, with $700 worth of prizes up for grabs.
Local resident and 2021 Australian Local Hero award winner Rosemary Kariuki-Fyfe said social inclusion ensures equal opportunities for all.
“Inclusion means providing equal opportunities and resources for people who would otherwise be excluded or marginalised such as members of minority groups,” Ms Kariuki-Fyfe said.
“Social Inclusion Week allows awareness to be created so that every single person represented in the community has their voice heard – to express their concerns and have those concerns met.
“When all people in society are included, they have a better sense of belonging and feel valued, their differences are respected such that their basic needs are met so they can live in dignity.
“Just get out there and do something. Get to know your neighbour or organise a BBQ or picnic. Do something!”
