Camden Council is proud to announce more than $20,000 was raised for Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard through Council’s International Women’s Day Gala last week.
The organisation was selected as part of Council’s expression of interest process, which invited local charities and not-for-profit organisations to apply to receive the funds raised from ticket sales of the event.
As the chosen beneficiary, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard has indicated the funds will go towards providing furniture, household goods, linen and clothing to survivors of domestic and family violence and the homeless.
The event, held at Gledswood Homestead and Winery last Thursday evening, was attended by 320 people. The event featured a keynote speech by two-time athletics World Champion and four-time Commonwealth Champion, Jana Pittman.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, said a great time was had by all.
“I’m proud that the community came together for this incredible event to support a very deserving charity in Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard,” she said.
“The work that this charity does in our community is so important and we hope these funds will go a long way in helping them serve those in need.
“Women play a vital role in our community, and it was the perfect event to pay tribute to each and every woman who we’re proud to have in the Camden area.”
Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard founder, Val Stewart, said the funds would go a long way.
“The love and support at this event for Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard was tangible, sometimes expressed, and very much appreciated,” she said.
“The contributions received will indeed enable us to adequately assist families to recover from their crisis and take their place with dignity in our community knowing they are valued.”
Eva Pavlakis, co-founder and director of platinum event sponsor, PNP Constructions, thanked all those involved with the event.
“It was an honour for PNP Constructions to be the Platinum sponsor of Camden Council’s International Woman’s Day Gala event and I would like to thank Camden Council for this wonderful opportunity,” she said.
“The Council’s continued support of local businesses and women in the community was evident with such a large turnout proving the contribution women make is invaluable.
“PNP not only supports inclusiveness with women in business, and construction but also people with disabilities who deserve to have their dignity protected, regardless of their gender and abilities. It’s about feeling valued and respected in a living space you can call home.”
