Local art enthusiasts are being urged to take advantage of their last chance to view the Portraits of Camden exhibition at the Alan Baker Art Gallery.

The incredibly popular exhibition is due to be taken down at the end of the month to make way for the next exciting exhibition.

Portraits of Camden presents Alan Baker’s historic charcoal portraits of the Camden Art Groups’ founding members, their families, friends and Camden residents willing to sit.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the amazing artwork had to be seen by the community.

“Alan Baker was a fantastic artist and having these 40 delightful charcoal drawings in our local area is a blessing to our community,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Mr Baker contributed greatly to the establishment of the Camden Art Group and can be seen as a pioneer of Camden’s cultural scene.

“I encourage residents both young and old to visit Alan Baker Art Gallery through the month of March to enjoy the fantastic and historic works.”

Baker’s charcoal demonstration drawings were produced during the 1970s and 1980s depicting his masterful drawing skills of heavy black strokes and fine lines capturing the soft tonal transitions within his detailed and organic reflection of the model before him.

Alan Baker Art Gallery, located at the historic Macaria at 37 John Street in Camden, is open Thursday through to Sunday every week, 11am-4pm.
