Passionate about the environment and looking for innovative ways to help reduce waste in your home? We have the perfect online workshop for you this week!
Macarthur residents are invited to register for the Reducing Plastic Waste @ Home for Beginners online workshop this Friday, to be hosted by Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living.
The workshop will see participants learn about the extent of plastic pollution in the environment, how to avoid creating plastic waste, what plastics can be recycled and where, and how to take action to reduce our use of single use plastic.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said residents had the chance to learn ahead of the NSW Government’s Plastics Plan in 2022.
“Reducing the use of plastic has a direct positive impact on the environment and this is a great opportunity for our residents to learn how they can do their bit,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Lightweight plastic bags, disposable plastic straws and cutlery, plastic cotton buds and microbeads are being phased out in NSW from 2025 under the NSW Government’s Plastics Plan, so there’s never been a better time to learn how to reduce plastic waste in your home.
“It is important to also reduce your waste at home generally, so this could be the perfect first step for you and your family.”
The workshop will also offer participants a chance to learn how to recycle soft plastics through the REDcycle program, what to do with polystyrene and how to make sure you know what plastics can go in your yellow-lidded bin.
