Incontinence product disposal bins have been installed in male public toilet facilities across the Camden area after Council joined the Bins4Blokes men’s health campaign recently.

BINS4Blokes is an Australia-wide awareness and advocacy campaign, encouraging providers of toilets in public spaces to include disposal bins for incontinence products in male toilets.

Continence Foundation of Australia CEO Rowan Cockerell said she was excited to see Camden Council join the initiative.

“The Continence Foundation of Australia is thrilled to have Camden Council support the Bins4Blokes initiative and take leading action on installing incontinence bins in men’s public toilets,” Mrs Cockerell said.

“The support of Bins4Blokes will have meaningful impact and show the one in 10 men with incontinence that their Council values and cares about including them in the community.

“Providing men in the community with incontinence bins enhances their connectedness and economic and social participation. A study of Australian men with urinary incontinence found that almost a third said they stayed home as a precautionary measure.

“We hope to see this combatted with councils across Australia adopting Bins4Blokes, like Camden Council has.”

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the installation of incontinence product disposal bins was an important step towards further supporting men’s health issues.

“Council takes the health and wellbeing of all of our residents very seriously and installing these bins in male public toilets is further proof of our commitment,” Cr Fedeli said.

“For boys and men who use incontinence products, there are generally very few or no places for them to be disposed of and this can cause mental health issues and isolation.

“Now they can get out and about in Camden confidently, thanks to our connection with the Bins4Blokes campaign which is an initiative of the Continence Foundation of Australia.

“Council has taken great strides in supporting a number of fantastic initiatives and foundations over the last few years and I am glad we have been able to join this campaign and further support our community.”
