Nest boxes to support nature connection
Posted 3 years ago
Residents can follow the new Nest Box Trail Map to connect with nature like never before, after the recent installation of 10 nest boxes at Harrington Forest.
Council successfully secured funding of $20,000 from the Australian Government’s Communities Environment Program 2019/2020 last year, to restore the bushland through woody weed removal and installation of 10 nest boxes for native species.
The nest boxes were decorated by children from a variety of local childcare centres and primary schools for native birds and mammals to use as a home.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said residents were now able to go on an exciting bushwalk to find all 10 nest boxes whilst exploring Harrington Forest.
“Camden is surrounded by such a beautiful environment and residents are lucky to be able to take their families out to find all 10 nest boxes and see our amazing animals in their natural habitat,” Cr Fedeli said.
“These nest boxes provide our native wildlife with a safe home, much like how we love returning home after a day at school or work.
“Council has also removed weeds to help regenerate native vegetation in the area which is important in keeping the area in good stead for future generations to enjoy.
“I’d like to thank the Australian Government for their support of the Camden area and hope all of our community can get out and check out the animals using the nest boxes.”
The Nest Box Trail Map is now available to be downloaded from Council’s website.
