Residents are encouraged to celebrate ANZAC Day in the comfort of their homes with Council’s first-ever virtual ANZAC Day event.

Despite COVID-19 restrictions leading to the cancellation of usual ANZAC Day commemorations, Council has created a downloadable poppy for residents to print off and display in their front window. Residents are invited to share their poppies on social media with the hashtag #PoppiesforANZACDay.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the campaign was a fantastic way to celebrate and remember the ANZACs during an unprecedented time.

“ANZAC Day 2020 will be like no other, but I believe this is our chance to continue to show our gratitude for the enormous contribution made to our country by placing a poppy in our front window,” Cr Fedeli said.

“I would love to see social media flooded with images of families and the poppies in their front window on the day, using the #PoppiesforANZACDay hashtag.

“It was beautiful to see families going on walks with their children pointing out bears in windows as part of the ‘bear hunt’ initiative on social media. This is an opportunity for parents to continue their walks with their little ones while having important conversations about the meaning of ANZAC Day.

“This will be a unique way to celebrate but will be a great combined community sign of acknowledgement, support and solidarity to the ANZACs.”

Poppies can be downloaded from Council’s website from today. Simply print your poppy off and pop it in your front window. Residents are also encouraged to send their images to Council’s Facebook inbox for their chance to be featured on Council’s social media accounts.
