Shade sails installed at Howard Park
Posted 4 years ago
Sun protection has been taken to the next level at Howard Park, after the recent installation of shade sails.
The park, located in Gregory Hills, caters for children of all ages and has been a popular destination for local kids since its opening in June 2019.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the shade sails were a welcome addition to the park, especially with the warmer months ahead.
“We all know how much our kids love all of our parks in Camden, in particular Howard Park,” Cr Fedeli said.
“These shade sails will go a long way in helping our kids are protected from the sun and allowing them to enjoy the playground all year round.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to remind our residents about two really important aspects of our safety. Please remember ‘seeking shade’ is just one way to practise sun safety – it is everyone’s responsibility to follow the Cancer Council’s protection steps and slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat and slide on sunnies also.
“And secondly, while our kids will be eager to continue using Howard Park, and indeed other spaces across the Camden area, we must continue to be COVID-Safe. Please remember to play and socialise responsibly, practise physical distancing and follow all COVID-19 regulations. It is up to all of us to do the right thing and keep our community safe.”
Howard Park is located in the heart of the suburb, between Gregory Hills Town Centre and the site of the future Gregory Hills Public School. It includes:
- A fenced infant area;
- Play equipment suitable for school-age children including slides and a huge climbing net;
- Half basketball court;
- Outdoor ping pong tables;
- A sandpit; and
- Slides.
