The festive season is upon us

Christmas is in the air, with festive joy well and truly ringing out all across the Camden area.
Over the weekend, Camden Council held its annual Camden Christmas Festival, with thousands of residents taking part in the Christmas festivities. At that event, the Camden Christmas Tree lights were turned on by Mayor Ashleigh Cagney and the winners of the Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition – Jihu Lee from St Justin’s Catholic Primary School, and Evie McEntee from Oran Park Anglican College.
On Friday 1 December, Council will keep the festive events going by hosting its Oran Park Christmas Concert at Oran Park Civic Precinct.
Kids have been rushing to get in their letters to Santa by dropping them off at the corner of Argyle and John Streets in Camden and at Oran Park Civic Precinct. Council will be sending the letters to the North Pole on 22 December.
Council recently launched its new program of Christmas competitions which include a Santa Stocking Guessing Competition, Best Elf on the Shelf Competition and Christmas Family Photo Competition.
And the Mayor’s Christmas Giving Appeal is back in 2023, with residents asked to donate goods and toys to Turning Point Camden, who will distribute them to those in need. Donations welcome include new toys and non-perishable food items, and they can be dropped off at Camden Library, Narellan Library, Oran Park Library or Camden Civic Centre.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney said all of the feedback from residents on Council’s festive activities had been extremely positive.
“Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year and I’m proud that there are so many ways to celebrate and get into the Christmas spirit right here in Camden,” she said.
“Over the weekend, I got to see thousands of smiling faces at the Camden Christmas Festival and I’m looking forward to seeing more of that Christmas cheer as the countdown to 25 December continues.”
