Unlock Camden’s history from your couch
Posted 4 years ago
Camden’s historic past will be unlocked through stories and images as Unlock Camden moves online to celebrate History Week this year.
Now in its second year, Unlock Camden promotes the historic locations and buildings in the Camden area as part of History Week from 5-13 September.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will take place online with the program including a virtual Historic Tour and the #mycamdenstory social media campaign encouraging residents to share images of their family’s history in Camden.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli said it was a great opportunity for residents to learn about the history of the area they live in.
“Unlock Camden allows us to celebrate the history, culture and achievements on Camden that we are all incredibly proud of,” Cr Fedeli said.
“We are lucky enough to be living in an area with a great historical significance and while it is unfortunate that we cannot open the doors to our historic buildings and locations this year, our Virtual Historic Tour will allow residents to walk through Camden’s heritage precinct and key historic locations right from the comfort of their own homes.
“I encourage all our residents to share their historic images on social media to truly show how important our history is in the community.”
Residents can also visit the Miss Llewella Davies Pioneer Walkway and discover the history of the property during the week while maintaining social distancing.
This event has been organised by Camden Council in conjunction with Council’s Heritage Advisory Committee.
