Larkin Place continues to earn the title of #ThePlaceToBe, as its activations for January get underway.
Coming up over the next month will be:
- Drop-In Rock Painting on Monday 16 January, 10am-noon, for residents aged between five and 12 years. Residents are invited to pick up their free rock painting kit from Camden Library from 9.30am and head over to Larkin Place for a rock painting session while learning about Aboriginal dot painting techniques and symbols with local artist Aunty Michelle Hailes;
- Yarn Bombing on Saturday 21 and Monday 23 January, 10am-1pm. Textile artists and knitting groups across the Camden area are invited to add a pop of colour to Larkin Place;
- Plaster Painting on Tuesday 24 January, 10am-1pm. Residents are encouraged to get creative during the school holidays and paint their own plaster piece with Lisa Diamond-Coorey from Cobbitty Gallery;
- Storytime in Larkin Place on Wednesday 25 January 2023, 9.30-10.30am. Camden Library invites children aged between three and five years to a much-loved Storytime session out at Larkin Place;
- Lunar New Year Music and Lantern Making on Tuesday 31 January, 3-5pm. In celebration of Lunar New Year, school-aged residents have the opportunity to join local artist Jo Wong Hoyee after school to create and decorate Chinese paper lanterns. While creating, they’ll be listening to the sounds of traditional Vietnamese instruments performed by Minh Ha Patmore from Viet Bambooz; and
- Lunchtime Jams, held on every Tuesday in January, 11.30am-2.30pm, where residents can get some takeaway food and enjoy live music performed by local talent in Larkin Place.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the program was an exciting start to the year.
“There’s something incredibly special about enjoying time with our kids while they’re off school doing some crafty and creative things,” Cr Fedeli said.
“I’m so pleased the temporary transformation of Larkin Place in Camden is allowing us to hold such great activations and allowing our residents to create such beautiful memories.
“Personally, I’m looking forward to heading down there to enjoy some music during the Lunchtime Jam sessions – they sound like bliss!”
