Wildlife signage to save our animals

Residents are being reminded to look out for native wildlife with 12 new wildlife signs installed along six local roads in Camden.
Council has partnered with WIRES to install the wildlife warning signs in aim of reducing injuries and deaths to wildlife.
The six local roads with new WIRES signage installed are:
- Emerald Hills Boulevard, Leppington;
- Raby Road, Emerald Hills;
- Gregory Hills Drive, Gregory Hills;
- Macquarie Grove Road, Camden;
- Menangle Road, Camden; and
- Mount Annan Drive, Mount Annan.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said taking care of our native animals is everyone’s responsibility.
“We are lucky enough to be living in such a beautiful area with a number of different wildlife and it is important to be aware and take care,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Signs have been posted in locations named as hot spots for rescues and if our signs can help prevent animals being hit and protect our wildlife then that’s a great start.
“I encourage the community to keep an on the road and watch for any wildlife.”
WIRES welcomed the council decision allowing the installation of the signs and their interest in protecting wildlife.
“We are pleased to be partnering with Camden Council to get these signs installed at key locations in the region,” a WIRES spokesperson said.
“The aim of the wildlife warning signs is to reduce roadside incidents and to ensure the public has the correct information available to contact WIRES quickly should they find a sick, injured, or orphaned native animal.”
