Road Survey
Camden Council assess the condition of road network every year. It is essential to not only ensure the safe and smooth driving for all road users but furthermore helps to quantify the road value and performance.
The road survey is completed by trained inspectors who use specialised equipment such as cameras, lasers, and sensors. The equipment collects data on the condition of road network by driving on the network. The survey involves capturing photo images of road surfaces (i.e. cracks, surface wearing, deformation, pothole, and other damages) and capturing the road profile to determine the roughness, rutting and texture of the network. The collected images and profile data are then analysed.
The processed data helps to optimise resource allocation and budget planning. This allows council to develop future road renewal program in a systematic and evidence-based decision making approach.
One third of the road network is scheduled for the road survey in Financial Year 2024-2025 which includes the roads in the suburbs of Bringelly, Cobbitty, Currans Hill, Ellis Lane, Harrington Park, Kirkham, Narellan, Narellan Vale, and Smeaton Grange.
