Residents can learn about the Nepean River and how to help keep local waterways in a healthy condition after Council recently released the ‘Nepean River, Our River’ video series.

The series, made in partnership with Penrith City Council, follows the journey of water in the urban and natural landscape while investigating ways Council and households can work together to maintain and improve water quality in local waterways.

The three videos focus on the Nepean River and the importance of vegetation, how volunteers can help, water quality monitoring and what Council is doing to care for the river.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the community have the perfect opportunity to lend their hand on maintaining local waterways.

“Council is committed to maintaining and improving local waterways and we all have a role to play in keeping them beautiful and healthy,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Healthy waterways mean healthy ecosystems and good quality water, which is important for both community and the environment.

“Residents can help limit stormwater pollution by taking positive actions in their local areas. I encourage the community to view the video series and take note of what changes you can make to assist future generations and what measures Council has in place to help limit stormwater pollution.”

Residents who watch the series and enter the Find the Platypus competition can go into the running to win one of 10 recycled plastic, plush platypus toys. Simply look out for the platypus in the video series and let us know which video and where in the video the platypus appeared for your chance to win. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 2 November.

Residents can also take to Be the Solution to Stormwater Pollution pledge online and commit to making small changes to help improve the quality of water that ends up in our beautiful waterways.
