International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Celebrated annually on 8 March, the day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality. The broad objectives of International Women's Day are to: celebrate women's achievements; raise awareness about women's equality; lobby for accelerated gender parity; and fundraise for female-focussed charities. Edwina Bartholomew has over 20 years of media experience across television, radio, print, and podcasting. Currently the newsreader on Sunrise, she has also worked for Radio 2GB and is currently a columnist for News Corp's Stellar magazine. Her career has taken her around the world, including a 40,000 km journey across Australia, where she has skydived, bungee jumped, and abseiled live on TV. Edwina has covered major events like the Christchurch earthquake and interviewed high-profile figures including Xanana Gusmao, Al Gore, Andre Agassi, Coldplay, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Lady Gaga and Hugh Jackman. She holds a Master’s in International Relations from Sydney University and a Bachelor of Communications from Charles Sturt University. Starting her career at Channel Seven in 2003, she has progressed from making coffee to hosting prime time shows and Olympic coverage. Beyond broadcasting, Edwina serves as an Ambassador for UNICEF Australia and the Nelune Foundation.
