Camden Animal Shelter & Community Nursery

The $10 million Camden Animal Shelter and the $4 million Community Nursery projects are proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.

Animal Shelter works will include:

  • A purpose-built animal shelter including adoption viewing areas with meet and greet spaces;
  • Animal housing designed in accordance with shelter medicine principles, sustainable design and Capacity for Care modelling;
  • Designated exercise yards, enrichment spaces and a walking track;
  • Reception area, staff workspaces and public amenities; and
  • A multipurpose function room that will offer community outreach programs.

The Camden Community Nursery will include:

  • Converting an industrial area into a community nursery to be used to nurture native species to be used in landscaping and restoration projects delivered by Council; and
  • Structured volunteer opportunities in conjunction with partnering organisations and groups.

While the nursery will not be accessible to the public on a day-to-day basis, plants will be made available to the community through regular plant giveaways.

Timeframe

A development application (DA) will be lodged with Camden Council in the coming weeks. The DA will be reviewed and determined by the Sydney Western City Planning Panel.
Construction is expected to commence quarter 1 of 2026 and continue for 16 months.
