Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities
Council is committed to building and maintaining strong links with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as well as celebrating the rich and vibrant culture of Australia’s Indigenous people as part of our diverse community.
The Camden Local Government Area along with those of Campbelltown and Wollondilly sit within the Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council boundaries, and, as such, work with local Aboriginal people often involves collaboration with other Councils in order to work best with our Aboriginal community.
In the most recent ABS 2021 Census of Population and Housing, 3,716 (3.1%) of people in the Camden Local Government Area (LGA) identified as having an Indigenous background, up from 1,117 people in the 2016 Census.
